That inevitably means an appropriately capable engine is essential, and the Suburban for the 2024 model year offers shoppers a choice of three. All three are worthy of serious consideration, and which is right for you will depend on what you need to do and where you want to go in your new SUV.
If you’re buying any model other than the top-of-the-line High Country, the standard powerplant will be Chevy’s superbly enduring 5.3-litre V-8 that puts out 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque that many customers will be more than satisfied with. If even more power than that is what you think you need, a 6.2-litre gas V-8 is also available that places 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque at the disposal of the mighty Chevy. The more powerful of the two gas V-8s is an option for RST, Z71, and Premier versions of the 2024 Suburban, and it’s the standard unit if you go for the High Country. Unless the Z71 is your chosen trim level for its extra off-road capability, the Suburban is also available with an inline-six 3.0-litre turbodiesel that delivers 277 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. In every case, the Suburban’s power gets sent to the wheels through a ten-speed automatic transmission.
It can be hard to accept or believe when you step inside the 2024 Suburban that it doesn’t qualify as a genuine luxury SUV. It certainly looks and feels luxurious – especially the High Country trim level – and it’s a challenge to come up with a feature that isn’t standard or available somewhere in the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban lineup. The availability of GM’s Super Cruise feature is new for the Suburban for the 2024 model year, which allows a limited degree of hands-free driving on designated highways. Super Cruise is available as an option at the Premier and High Country levels of the 2024 Suburban, which shows how technologically advanced this supposedly traditional large SUV has now become.
Retail shoppers will likely leave the LS trim to fleet buyers and start their 2024 Suburban journey at the LT trim level or higher. The LT replaces the LS’s 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with a larger 10.2-inch unit, and it also adds a 12.0-inch colour Driver Information Centre display and a nine-speaker Bose audio system.
