Terms like “all-new” and “reimagined” get thrown about all the time in the auto business, but rarely can words like those have been more appropriate than when applied to the incredible new Chevrolet Silverado EV. This cutting-edge new direction for the Silverado delivers an all-electric, zero-emissions version of the full-size pickup truck exclusively in a crew cab body style. But it will also deliver more power and at least as much capability as any comparable truck that still relies on an internal combustion engine for getting the job done in and around Regina and further afield.
To begin with, there will be two versions of the Silverado EV available to reserve that will illustrate just how different and versatile the new all-electric Chevy truck can be that will also illustrate the extremely wide appeal these trucks will eventually have. The first and most affordable of the two models initially available will be a fleet-orientated WT version of the Chevrolet Silverado EV, while the other will be an RST First Edition model that will show just how far this new truck can go in terms of capability, style, comfort, luxury, and technology if your budget allows.
Once again, the two versions available to begin will offer a difference when it comes to electric powertrains, but neither will be found lacking when it comes to capability. The entry-level WT will offer 510 horsepower and 615 lb.-ft. of torque that certainly doesn’t sound very entry-level, while the RST will go even further with as much as 664 horsepower and more than 780 lb.-ft. of torque available. When it comes to those all-important capability numbers, the WT will be rated to tow 8,000 pounds and comes with a maximum payload rating of 1,200 pounds, but the RST First Edition ups the capability ante to a 10,000-pound tow rating and a 1,300-pound payload capacity. And just in case you’re interested in such vulgar things, the RST will be able to get you from zero to 60 mph in under 4.5 seconds, and sometime after the initial launch, a fleet model will be made available capable of towing up to as much as 20,000 pounds when the Silverado EV is equipped with the max tow package.
These stunning new trucks will have all the features you expect from a modern full-size truck and then some, but there will also be plenty of tech on board that you will only find in an EV. The RST First Edition will be a fully loaded model with four-wheel steering, Automatic Adaptive Air Suspension, a 17-inch-diagonal LCD freeform infotainment screen paired with an 11-inch-diagonal reconfigurable driver instrument display, and even a multi-colour head-up display for the driver with a field of view over 14 inches. Inevitably, there will also be a trailering-capable version of GM’s Super Cruise feature offering genuine hands-free driver-assistance technology on more than 200,000 miles of compatible roads across North America.
The one thing most people ask about any EV in these relatively early days of the technology is how far it will go on a single full charge of the battery before it needs recharging, and Chevrolet is proud to announce that both versions of the Silverado EV have a range of up to 400 miles. On top of that, the Silverado EV will also offer cutting-edge 350 kW DC fast-charging capability that will let you put enough charge in the battery for a hundred miles of driving in just 10 minutes. You will even be able to share power with another less fortunate EV that’s low on charge using an available accessory charge cord that allows you to donate electrical charge with another vehicle in times of dire need.
