However, the five trim levels cover a wide range of specifications to suit an equally broad range of potential owners.
The base model is the fleet-focused WT (Work Truck) that retail shoppers will look beyond. The next model is the LT, and then we have the increasingly impressive Trail Boss, Z71, and the highly desirable ZR2 at the top of the range. However, the ZR2 gets further enhanced with an available Bison package for the 2024 model year. The package upgrades the truck’s off-road capability even further with steel skid plates, a best-in-class approach angle, segment-exclusive Multimatic front bumpers, and plenty more.
Although there’s just one engine in the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado lineup, there’s a little more to it than that. There are actually three different versions of the 2.7-liter turbo-four engine you may recognize from the Colorado’s full-size big brother. The powerplant comes in Turbo, Turbo Plus, and Turbo High Output versions, which are all tuned differently. The 2.7-litre Turbo is the standard unit for the WT and LT models and puts out 237 horsepower and 259 lb.-ft. of torque. Next up is the Turbo Plus, which is standard with the Trail Boss and Z71 and is available for the WT and LT. The Turbo Plus ups the ante to 310 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque, but the ZR2 goes even further with the Turbo High Output that provides the ZR2 with an additional 40 lb.-ft. of torque.
The 2.7-litre Turbo offers a maximum trailering capacity of 3,500 pounds. However, if your 2024 Chevrolet Colorado comes equipped with the Turbo Plus or Turbo High Output powerplants, that maximum trailering capacity goes up to a seriously impressive 7,700 pounds.
Many trucks and SUVs pay lip service to off-road capability, but the latest 2024 Colorado takes a much more serious approach to the subject. Although four-wheel drive is optional with lower trim levels, it is available, and there are three different chassis setups for different degrees of off-road capability. The WT and LT have a standard setup, the Trail Boss gets a Wide Stance, and a two-inch factory lift, and the ZR2 features a high-performance 3-inch factory-installed lift & wide stance.
The simplistic approach to the new Colorado continues with all models now only available with a crew cab and a short bed, the combination the vast majority of shoppers want. The new chassis delivers a 3.1-inch-longer wheelbase than its predecessor, and a shortened front overhang contributes to a more aggressive stance while simultaneously improving the truck’s approach angle. Up to five drive models are available: Normal, Tow/Haul, Off-Road, Terrain, and Baja.
