When the application requires something bigger, tougher, and more capable than a half-ton truck it’s probably about time to turn to the awesome 2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD family of heavy-duty pickup trucks. With an almost limitless number of ways these trucks can be configured and with staggering levels of capability and versatility, there’s a 2022 Silverado HD for whatever job you need a truck to do.
Before you even get to things like engines, transmissions, drivetrains, and available options for your new 2022 Silverado HD there are other important decisions to be made first. These include whether a 2500 HD will suffice or what you have in mind requires a 3500 HD, and then you have to decide which cab, which bed, and which trim levels suit your requirements the best. There are either four or five available trim levels, depending on whether you are happy to stick with the rear-wheel-drive or whether you need the additional capability of the four-wheel-drive. Rear-drive Silverado HD models are available in WT, LT, Custom and LTZ trim levels, but if you’re happy to have a four-wheel-drive Silverado HD it also opens up to option of a range-topping High Country model.
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD family sticks with the tried and tested two powertrain formula for heavy-duty pickup trucks with a standard V-8 gas-powered engine and an available V-8 turbodiesel. The standard gas engine is a 6.6-litre unit that produces an impressive 401 horsepower and 464 lb.-ft. of torque that comes mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that can be upgraded to a 10-speed transmission if you prefer.
The alternative powerplant is a mighty 6.6-litre Duramax V-8 turbodiesel which then provides the Silverado HD with 445 horsepower and a huge 910 lb.-ft. of torque. When properly equipped, a 2022 Silverado 3500 HD is rated to tow a maximum 16,329 kg (36,000 pounds), but no 2500 HD or 3500 HD specification is found lacking when it comes to payload and towing capabilities.
Once you have established what type and body style of Silverado HD is right for you there’s an almost unlimited number of ways you can configure it to make it exactly the way you want and need it to be. Even the most workmanlike WT trim level comes with standard power features, a rearview camera, climate control and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, dual USB ports and Bluetooth connectivity. From there you can have pretty much any feature you can think of to the point where a High Country can easily resemble a luxury office on wheels that can still tow a house behind it.
The Silverado HD is available with the likes of up to 15 camera views for help with hitching up, backing up, or just manoeuvring; a multi-colour 15-inch diagonal head-up display that can project speed, navigation and available active safety alerts onto the windshield; and the Advanced Trailering System that allows you to create customized trailer profiles to assist with hitching up and towing.
