There’s no doubt that the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 certainly looks the part, but that’s only one small element of what it takes to enjoy consistent success in the incredibly competitive full-size, light-duty pickup truck segment. Today’s pickup trucks have to be able to adapt to a vast array of different environments and applications, and they have to appeal to both commercial and retail buyers. The 2022 Silverado 1500 is now available to order in so many different configurations and specifications that it’s hard to imagine you can’t find one that’s perfect for you and what you need.
There are no fewer than six different engines to choose from in the 2022 Silverado 1500 lineup, and even though two of them are slight variations of the same engine, that’s still more available engines than some vehicles have trim levels! The standard engine is a 4.2-litre V-6 that puts out 285 horsepower and 305 lb.-ft. of torque, but there are two other engines that even the base version of the 1500 can be upgraded with. The first of that pair is a 2.7-litre turbo-four offering 310 horsepower and 348 lb.-ft. of torque, and the other is a 5.3-litre V-8 that puts an impressive 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque at the Chevy’s disposal.
If you go above the first two trim levels in the 2022 Silverado 1500 you can upgrade from the turbo-four to a version of the 5.3-litre V-8, but there’s also the option of a 3.0-litre inline-six turbodiesel that produces 277 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. The most powerful engine option is a mighty 6.2-litre V-8 which then gives you 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque to play with.
Before we even start to look at individual features there are double cab and crew cab body styles, standard and short beds, and many different trim levels. If you want a rear-drive 1500 you have five different trim levels to choose from which are WT, Custom, LT, RST, and LTZ. If a four-wheel-drive Silverado 1500 is what you’re looking for you then have an even more impressive eight trim levels to choose between. The entry-level 4WD version of the truck is still the WT (Work Truck), but from there the lineup goes to the Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and the imperious, top-of-the-range High Country. Plus, new for 2022 is the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 which offers an elevated off-road experience.
Standard equipment at all levels on the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is generous, and even the base WT comes with the likes of Bluetooth connectivity, a rear vision camera, climate control, and the Chevrolet 3 infotainment system with a 7.0-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Top-of-the-range High Country models come with such upscale features as an 8.0-inch digital Driver Information Centre, a Bose premium sound system, satellite navigation, a 10-way powered memory driver seat, front and rear park assist, heated seats and steering wheel, Hitch Guidance with Hitch View and perforated leather upholstery.
