Completely new generations of vehicles can sometimes be mistaken for nothing more than a light refresh, but with the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV, it’s the other way around as this is a refreshed model that at first glance could easily be mistaken for a totally new model. The previous Bolt was already a stylish and attractive little five-door hatch but the refreshed 2022 model looks strikingly different and even more contemporary. The most important thing about the Bolt is still its all-electric powertrain, but there’s every chance that this exciting new look can attract more people to make the switch to electric mobility sooner than they may have planned.
If you’re one of those people who can spend an age deciding which version of a car to go for you won’t have that problem when you go to buy a 2022 Chevrolet Bolt, and that’s because there’s only one version. The refreshed 2022 Bolt has just one generously equipped trim level which is the LT, and you don’t even have to worry about different powertrains. The choices you do have to make when ordering a new Chevy Bolt are what exterior colour you want, whether you want to upgrade the 17-inch silver painted alloy wheels to a set of machined-face aluminum wheels with carbon flash painted pockets, and whether you want to add a few extra safety and driver-assist features.
Of course, as long as all-electric vehicles are still relatively new to most of us the main topic of conversation about any new model will inevitably gravitate to the powertrain and performance. Propelling the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV is an electric motor system that gets its power from a 65-kWh battery pack and this system produces 200 horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque to drive the front wheels. The top speed of the Bolt EV is a relatively modest 93mph, but acceleration is one of the big strengths of electric cars and the Bolt can get you from a standing start to 60mph in a very spritely 6.5 seconds.
The statistic most people want to know when it comes to an EV is how far it can go on a full charge of the battery before it runs out and has to be recharged, and the Bolt EV is rated at a very respectable 259 miles in this vitally important area. A new 11-kilowatt onboard charger means charging the battery to full now takes around seven hours when connected to a 48-amp wall box on a 60-amp circuit, while DC fast charging can add 100 miles of range to the battery in just 30 minutes.
It would be a lot quicker and easier to list the handful of optional features that are available for the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV than it would be to list everything standard. If you’d like to have Rear Park Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, the Interior Protection or Driver Confidence Packages, aluminum sill plates, or a cargo net you’ll have to pay extra. However, standard equipment includes the likes of LED front and rear lights, an 8-way power driver seat, automatic climate control, a heated steering wheel, an HD rear vision camera, keyless open and start, and the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus system with a 10.2-inch diagonal HD colour touch-screen.
There’s no getting away from the fact that the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV represents an entirely different driving experience to a gas-powered car and we’re confident it’s one you’ll enjoy when you come to RMP Chevrolet here at Albert St. South @ Hwy 1 & 6, Regina, SK, for a test drive.
