Trailblazer may well be a name you know from Chevrolet’s past, but the all-new 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer is a long way from the last Chevy to use it. The all-new Trailblazer is a small crossover that looks a lot like a more compact version of the sensational Chevy Blazer, so it’s nothing like its predecessor which was a large, truck-based, ladder-frame SUV.
This all-new compact crossover blends sporty and aggressive styling, but the engines powering this stylish new model is all about efficient performance and are entirely right for a modern vehicle of these proportions.
Things are moving fast in the auto industry these days, and Chevrolet is staying at the forefront of the way the industry is changing by launching the all-new 2021 Trailblazer with a pair of frugal three-cylinder powerplants.
Buyers have a choice to make between 1.2-litre and 1.3-litre three-cylinder engines, but both put out a healthy 155 horsepower and both come mated to a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). The 1.3-litre engine is also available with the option of a nine-speed automatic and all-wheel-drive if you prefer, and that means the Trailblazer can be a much more capable off-roader than a lot of its compact rivals.
The ACTIV version of the all-new 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer goes much further in terms of being all-weather and off-road capable than most rivals in its class than just having all-wheel-drive available. These models also come equipped with specialist shock tuning and unique tires.
At the front of the Trailblazer ACTIV, you’ll see it’s a little different from other models as it has a revised lower section that’s been designed to offer better ground clearance. The ACTIV dampers are specifically tuned to improve the performance and ride quality when navigating gravel roads, and the Hankook Sport Terrain 17-inch tires can pretty much handle anything the Saskatchewan wilderness or winter weather can throw at them.
Even front-drive models come with three drive modes that make this an extremely capable little crossover. The three modes are Normal, which is designed for daily commuting and focuses on ride comfort; Snow, which offers a more progressive throttle input for better acceleration on slippery roads covered in snow and ice; Sport, which modifies the amount of effort required for steering and shifting for a more responsive and sportier feel.
