The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban is something of an exception that proves the rule. Although many have tried to write-off full-size, truck-based SUVs like the Suburban many times over the years, the sheer capability, practicality, and versatility of the Suburban will continue to have wide appeal until something else can come close.
For 2021 the Suburban is all-new, with a new look, new architecture, and pretty much more of everything. If you want a vehicle that can comfortably transport up to nine people and their stuff from Northgate Mall to Wascana Country Club in comfort and can tow like a pickup truck, check out the all-new Chevy Suburban today.
The 2021 Suburban family might not be quite as big as the vehicle itself, but there’s certainly enough choice to keep even the most demanding buyers happy. If you prefer a rear-drive Suburban there are just two trim levels to choose from, but if an all-wheel-drive Suburban is what you’re interested in then you have six impressive trim levels to choose between.
At the start of the all-new 2021 Suburban lineup is the LS, which along with the LT that comes next in the range are the models that come as standard rear-wheel-drive. Both models can be upgraded with AWD if you’d like, but if you go for an RST, Z71, Premier or range-topping High Country model you then get AWD as part of the standard specification.
There’s a familiar look about the powertrains available for the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban, but that doesn’t mean anything is lacking. The standard engine under the hood of the vast majority of the Suburban lineup for 2021 is a 5.3-litre V-8 that produces a suitably substantial 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque.
If that’s still not enough for your needs or taste then there’s also a mammoth 6.2-litre V-8 which then gives the mighty Chevy 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque to play with. However, if you want this more powerful unit you’ll have to go for the range-topping, AWD Suburban High Country.
Regardless of which engine you choose and whether your new Suburban is rear or all-wheel-drive, the considerable power produced by either engine is sent to the wheels through an excellent 10-speed automatic transmission that’s as straightforward as a trip along the CanAm Highway to Belle Plaine.
With six trim levels in the lineup, you might be tempted to expect that all the goodies would be reserved for mid-level trim levels and higher, but that’s not entirely the case. Although some of the more advanced and upscale features inevitably appear in the more expensive models, the list of standard features and equipment at the entry-level is still impressive.
A Suburban LS comes with standard 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10-way power driver seat, 10.2-inch diagonal multicolour reconfigurable screen for the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus infotainment system, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability, an 8-way power front passenger seat, Bluetooth connectivity, HD Radio, an HD rear vision camera system, keyless open and start, rear park assist and front and rear air conditioning. And of course, the infotainment system features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
If you go to the other extreme, the Suburban High Country gets you standard 22-inch alloys, a hands-free power liftgate, an 8-inch diagonal multicolour Driver Information Centre, a heated steering wheel, a premium 10-speaker Bose sound system, navigation, HD Surround Vision, heated and ventilated driver and front passenger seats and even a head-up display.
It’s hard to overstate the strength and capability of the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban. Chevy has taken what was already an incredibly versatile and capable vehicle and made it even more so. The wheelbase is now more than 11 feet, and that’s why it can seat up to nine people in such comfort and still have room for a good amount of cargo.
If you want an SUV that’s even more adept at transporting people and cargo than a minivan and is also a lot more capable and desirable, come and check out the all-new 2021 Suburban with a test drive from us today here at RMP Chevrolet, conveniently located at Albert St. South @ Highway 1 & 6 in Regina, Saskatchewan.
