The High Country is the ultimate trim level in the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado lineup and it’s a pickup truck that simply doesn’t compromise when it comes to style, comfort, luxury, and technology. The Silverado 1500 is one of the biggest-selling full-size trucks in North America for many good reasons, and in High Country form it really is without equal. It’s perhaps not quite as configurable as some lower trim levels in the current Silverado 1500 range, but that’s because it comes standard with just about everything you could want or imagine.
Buyers don’t have to worry about which cab to go for when ordering a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country because it only comes in the most versatile crew cab format that most buyers want anyway. You do get to choose between a short or standard bed, but that’s all you have to think about in terms of body style.
It’s a similar story with drivetrains too. Although there are options when it comes to engines, whichever one you choose to go for will be driving all four wheels as there’s no rear-drive version of this range-topping model. After all, why would you settle for anything less than ultimate capability when buying the ultimate full-size, light-duty pickup truck
The standard engine for the High Country version of the 2021 Silverado 1500 is a 5.3-litre EcoTec3 V-8 engine with DFM that produces a very capable 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. If you’d prefer a bit of diesel power and grunt, the second engine option is a 3.0-litre inline-six turbodiesel which then provides the High Country with 277 horsepower and a tow-friendly 460 lb.-ft. of torque.
If you’d like the most powerful engine available for the High Country – and why wouldn’t you? – the final one of this tasty trio is a 6.2-litre EcoTec3 V-8 engine producing 420 horsepower and the same 460 lb.-ft. of torque offered by the turbodiesel powerplant.
As you might expect, there’s no messing around with the eight-speed automatic transmission found in some lower trim levels of the Silverado 1500 as the High Country comes standard with the superb 10-speed automatic transmission whichever engine you opt to go with.
A standard or a short bed High Country with the Max Trailering Package has a maximum tow rating of 5,398 kg with the 6.2-litre V-8 under the hood, and all versions are rated to haul more than 907 kg.
It really would be quicker to compile a list of features and equipment the High Country does have as part of its standard specification rather than what it does have, although working out what isn’t in there certainly wouldn’t be an easy task by any means.
Some of the highlights of the standard exterior equipment list include the Advanced Trailering System, auto stop/start, an automatic locking rear differential, a dual-outlet exhaust, an integrated trailer brake controller, 20-inch alloy wheels, a Chevytec spray-on bed liner, LED lights all around and lots and lots of chrome.
On the inside, you’ll find a 120-volt power outlet, an 8.0-inch diagonal, digital Driver Information Centre, Bose premium sound system, 10-way power driver memory seat, front and rear park assist, bucket seats in the front, HD Rear Vision Camera, front and rear heated seats, a heated steering wheel and perforated leather upholstery. Of course, the High Country also comes with Chevy’s finest infotainment system with navigation, Bluetooth, and HD Radio.
The standard equipment list isn’t completely exhaustive though and if you want to upgrade your High Country even further there are also options such as a head-up display and HD Surround Vision.
The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country is a great example of getting what you pay for. As mentioned above, there are some cost options you can add to enhance this incredible truck even more, but for most people, the standard specification will be everything they could wish for in a pickup truck and then some.
