In many areas of life, you really do get what you pay for, and paying more for something often tends to get you more. However, that philosophy no longer applies to the sports car market as the simply stunning 2022 Chevrolet Corvette delivers supercar styling and performance at a fraction of the cost of some of its rivals. You could easily pay two, three or even four times as much for a European sports car offering similar levels of performance and style as the C8 Corvette, and that’s a big part of why this latest version of the legendary sports car is in such demand.
There are just three different but very straightforward trim levels to choose between in the 2022 Corvette lineup, which are the 1LT, 2LT, and range-topping 3LT. All three of them are available in both coupe and convertible body styles, and there’s no such thing as a basic or sparsely equipped version of the new Corvette.
It’s hard to use the term ‘entry-level’ for the 1LT as its standard equipment list is generous, to say the least. Standard 1LT features include the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus system with an 8.0-inch diagonal HD colour touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, LED headlights, 19-inch front and 20-inch rear alloy wheels, genuine leather upholstery, remote start, a 10-speaker premium Bose audio system, satellite radio, 8-way power-adjustable seats, a 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster, and dual-zone climate control.
There wouldn’t be much point looking the way the latest Corvette does if it didn’t have the power and performance to deliver on the promises made by that stunning styling, and the sensational 6.2-litre V-8 powering each version of the 2022 Corvette doesn’t disappoint in any way. The engine develops 490 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque in its standard form, but that can be increased to 495 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque with the addition of the available performance exhaust or the Z51 Performance Package. The power is always sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, and partly thanks to a dry curb weight of just 1,527kg, the 2022 Corvette Stingray can go from a standing start to 60 mph in the Corvette in less than three seconds.
Some sports cars go for a stripped-down, no-frills formula to reduce weight and increase performance, but the interior of the 2022 Corvette is quite the opposite and it really does make this a car you can use and enjoy all the time whether you’re driving around the city or long-distance cruising. It would probably be stretching things to claim a two-seat sports car was practical, but the way the Corvette has been designed and built means it’s just as suitable to be used as a grand tourer as it is to be used for days out at the track.
The cabin is understandably snug, but the quality of materials used and the equipment levels make the interior of the 2022 Corvette Stingray a very nice place to be. The design and layout of the interior are also almost as stylish as the exterior of the car, which really is saying something.
The Corvette has been a legend for many decades now, but the legend has now embarked on another chapter that promises to take it to even higher levels of success and desirability.
